Elio is a commercial litigator whose practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, specifically infringement of trademarks, patents and copyrights, as well as protection of trade secrets. Over the years, he has shared his in-depth experience with the students of St. Thomas University School of Law as an adjunct professor of Intellectual Property Law.

Elio has also represented major lenders in multi-million dollar litigation and the work-out of complex troubled loans, as well as securities brokers in arbitration hearings before the NASD. He regularly represents creditors in Bankruptcy Court and has argued numerous appeals.

Active in professional associations, Elio is a leader of the American Bar Association’s General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division, and is a member of the International Trademark Association and ASIPI, a Central and South-American based intellectual property organization. He is the immediate past Chair of the ABA General Practice Division’s Publishing Board, and a founding member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Publishing Oversight, where he oversaw copyright issues relating to the ABA.

Elio was born in Havana, Cuba and is fluent in English and Spanish. He is a graduate of Fordham College (B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude, 1982) and New York University School of Law (J.D. 1985), and is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.
